'American Kestrel' pencil drawing by Richard Adams

American Kestrel
by
Richard Adams
A return to colored pencil with the addition of watercolor pencil. The subtle colors in the post and barbed wire contrast with the bold, vibrant colors of the male Kestrel. The pose is meant to suggest the falcon is surveying a field and has just caught sight of the observer. This drawing captures the instant where the human observer has been seen and just before the bird has flown away. It is this instant that enourages nature lovers to tread lightly with the hope that it will happen once again.
