English artist Sue Clinker was born in 1958 and has been drawing for the last fifteen years. Sue told us...

As a small child I spent hours drawing - my favourite subject was circus horses (embellished with plumes made from feathers pulled out of pillows - which got me into a lot of trouble with my mother)!

Many years later friends commissioned a portrait of my horse from a well known local artist and this led me to purchase a set of pastel sticks/pencils to try my hand at pet portraits. I started drawing dogs and horses for friends and through word of mouth started getting regular commission work. I then tried my hand at human subjects, initially in graphite pencil but I have recently been experimenting with coloured pencils and really love the fine detail which can be achieved with this medium.

Pet portraits remain my favourite topic and my aim is alway to capture the personality and character of each individual animal I draw.
